How to Know Jesus

I trust God with the best of all that I have, because he has proven to be the most trustworthy of anyone or anything I have ever known. It is he that has given me great gifts: my family, provision when I had no idea where it would come from, love when those around me struggle to love me, and most of all, a purpose that shows that he sees my value and worth.

I love what Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV) says:

This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

For every “good way,” there is a beginning. In this book, I have spoken many times of who Jesus is and what that means for me and many, many others. We have found rest for our souls. While the trials of this world often seek to weigh on us, we always know that we have Jesus to turn to. He has been a husband when I had nobody to turn to, a confidant when I needed a friend and a Savior when I was lost.

I ask … have you found rest for your soul? The following passages will lead you there:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. (Romans 1:16 NIV)

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? (Romans 2:4 NIV)

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23 NIV)

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 NIV)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NIV)

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:9–10 NIV)

For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13 NIV)

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1–2 NIV)

If you would like to see a change in your life, and you realize that God is the answer, a prayer is available below to lead you into a loving relationship with God. As you pray, say it aloud, according to Romans 10:9–10 (NIV).

A sample prayer:

Dear God,

I know that Jesus is your Son and the he died and rose from the dead. Because I have sinned and need forgiveness, I ask Jesus to save me. I am willing to change the direction of my life by acknowledging Jesus as my Savior and Lord and by turning away from my sins. Thank you for giving me forgiveness, eternal life, and hope. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Now let us read two final passages:

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (Romans 8:16–17 NIV)

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38–39 NIV)

If you indeed have received Jesus as your Savior and prayed the prayer of repentance, the next step is to get a Bible and start reading it so that you may be encouraged by the words of God, and ask him to direct you to a church . Then, as God leads you, step forward in obedience to God by proclaiming yourself as a child of God through baptism.

My friend, if you have, indeed, found a relationship with Jesus Christ, would you do me the honor of sending me a message to let me know so that I may celebrate with you and, of course, pray for you in this new journey.

May God bless you in every good thing!
